Ocean Safety Awareness Day at Strand Beach

What an amazing day at Strand Beach for our Ocean Safety Training Day!

We were honoured to welcome Chairperson & Councillor Chantal Serfontein as our VIP guest — joining us to celebrate community, learning, and lifesaving in action.

Our incredible speakers and instructors made the day unforgettable:

Mieke Herbst (NSRI) – sharing vital water safety protocols and tips, helping the community understand how to stay safe in and around the ocean

Jubilee van Jaarsveld – Senior Lifeguard & Club Instructor, speaking about reading the surf and rip current safety

Michelle Weber – 2x Olympic Open Water Swimmer, sharing her journey and ocean wisdom

Nix Morrison (@medicnix) – TikTok-famous medic teaching the kids how to perform CPR and respond in emergencies

The highlight? A full-scale rescue simulation where the NSRI and Strand lifeguards worked together to “save” three swimmers caught in a rip tide — a powerful display of teamwork and skill.

Huge thanks to Sean Goldsmith and his team from Groe Global joining forces with the Strand Nippers Club and organising and driving this incredible community event, and to everyone who came out to support. The Strand Nippers family added extra flavour with lekker pancakes and tuck shop goodies to raise funds for our club mission.

Days like these remind us that ocean safety starts with awareness, grows through teamwork, and thrives through community.
